"A South American country is the frequent pass-through for drugs, weapons, and other contraband. This small country has no standing army. Long the butt of the world's jokes, loose bands of countrymen, who call themselves the "Nationals", take great offense. They jealously guard their borders, and actively seek out trespassers on their soil. Sometimes they are successful at driving out intruders. Even better, is when they capture the transported material. This, they can sell for cash, or keep for themselves. Drugs for cash to help their families. Guns and ammunition for the next raid.

Running with the DoGs!
I had the pleasure of meeting Winston (DoG#0), Steve (DoG#1), Simon (DoG#2), Flinn (DoG#3), Nigel (DoG#11), Heather (DoG#12), Paul (DoG#15), and Peter (DoG#24) after work on Wednesday. Steve and Paul drove a camoflaged lorry to pick me up from the Wokingham train station. You should have seen the looks on the commuters' faces when I hopped into the lorry!

Winston is an APC, which Steve keeps parked in his driveway. The neighbors love Steve, because his toys keep troublemakers away from this bunch of houses. A quick tour inside Steve's abode confirms that he has far too much time and money for his hobbies! J

Winston provided a wonderful rumbling tour of the English countryside with Steve in the driver's seat and Peter in the commander's chair. I spent a good amount of time in the machinegunner's turret. Believe me, automobiles give right of way to an 8-ton APC bearing down the tarmac!

... And roads were not always necessary: we even crossed a waterway. Winston took it in complete stride. If Steve had not mentioned it, I probably would have never known.

After a quick exercise in advanced camoflage techniques, the excursion ended with a dinner stop at a local pub, the Crooked Billet, where the DoGs subjected my palate to Swirl and Mash... as well as a steaming hot dessert called, "Spotted D ick." We certainly don't get anything like that in the U.S.!

During dinner, Flinn proclaimed me as honorary DoG#99 and bestowed upon me a much coveted DoG beret... probably to help me feel better after all the physical, verbal, and culinary abuse they heaped upon me. It was all in fun, of course! J WHAT A GREAT BUNCH! I plan to spend more time with the DoGs when I'm back in the UK! And next time, I'm bringing my gear!

For more info on the DoGs, visit their website:

I will post photos soon, but here's one from the DoG site:
